![]() I've been humming it whenever I haven't been playing. Finally, Radiant Silvergun's epic soundtrack is fantastic. But we've been having a blast playing local two-player here in the IGN office. Full disclosure: I have not had a chance to test the online multiplayer, yet. For multiplayer, you can bring a friend along either locally or online. I find it refreshing to play a shooter that has more to offer than just crazed gunplay (although there is nothing wrong with crazed gunplay, either). Playing this way turns the game into more of a puzzler where you must choose carefully which enemies you blow up. The other major aspect of Radiant Silvergun is the color-coded combo system that rewards you with bonus experience points for consecutively shooting down enemies of the same ilk. Effectively, the guns you prefer will always become more and more powerful just by playing the game. You earn experience points for the kills you make with each gun that automatically level up that particular weapon. It gives you seven weapons right from the start that all work well in different situations. Radiant Silvergun's trick is that it doesn't have any power-ups. This addictive feature makes you feel like a play session is never wasted, no matter how poor your performance, because you always earn experience points that carry over to your next game. Arcade and Story modes offer two variations of the same blow everything up model, with Story allowing you to save a persistent profile and constantly upgrade your ship over time. The new high-resolution graphics smooth out the pixilated look of the original, but purists can play with the old school chunky sprites if they like. Your ship has a huge arsenal of attacks right out of the gate. You use a variety of weapons to shoot down color-coded enemies, and dodge bullets to survive (or absorb bullets using a sword to power a giant scissors attack). In addition, and for a limited time only, all orders placed directly through our website will also include a sheet of 17 stickers (while stocks last).Ģ x 180g Orange/Red/Clear, Split & Splatter (Limited Edition)Īvailable to buy from SATURDAY 7th DECEMBER at data-discs.Play This remake runs in its original 4:3 ratio and includes a handful of attractive wallpapers to decorate the remaining bits of your TV with. This is an action game in which players pilot spaceships to defend Earth from impending destruction. ![]() RADIANT SILVERGUN is presented as a remastered double 180g LP, with the first disc featuring Hitoshi Sakimoto’s original compositions and the second focusing on the SEGA Saturn versions. There is no grandiose battle theme at the end, nor triumphant crescendo, nor glory. What begins as a stoic and determined score of recurring motifs, featuring percussion, strings and bells, slowly descends into an unexpectedly reflective and ambient score, with choral passages and a sense of minimalism that completely juxtaposes, but oddly complements, the frantic intensity of the game. Whereas other shooters at the time had been accompanied by frenzied and bombastic scores, Sakimoto took an entirely different approach for RADIANT SILVERGUN. This unorthodox approach also extended to its musical score, which was composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto (whose other works include Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy Tactics). With its surprisingly complex mechanics, blending traditional shoot ‘em up elements with puzzle-like gameplay, RADIANT SILVERGUN subverted audience expectations and defied genre conventions. As a testament to the game’s inventiveness and unique aesthetic, RADIANT SILVERGUN has maintained a legendary status and cult following for decades, despite not being officially released outside of Japan until 2011, when a HD remaster was published on the Xbox 360 Live Arcade. Radiant Silvergun first launched for aracde on in Japan, followed by Saturn on July 23, 1998. ![]() Originally released in 1998 in the arcades and for the SEGA Saturn console, RADIANT SILVERGUN is widely regarded as one of the greatest shooters ever made. In partnership with acclaimed Japanese game developer TREASURE, we are thrilled to announce our RADIANT SILVERGUN vinyl edition. ![]()
